Ranting & Rambling: by D.W. Wade

This is the first of many columns I intend to write. The focus is not important. Sometimes it may be a rant, and others an excessive bit of rambling. Although today I would like to give my opinion on accountability.

It seems to me that in todays' society no one is accountable for their actions. It starts at an early age, "Oh she's so cute when she does that.", "That wasn't his fault, he's only two." That would probably be okay, but it seldom stops there. Now when children go to school they have short attention span disorder, and need to be on Ritalin or some other type of drug. Is this the first generation to ever have this type of disorder? What about the generations before? I know they were told to suck it up. Honestly everybody's mind wanders now and again. Isn't it about self-discipline and being able to focus on your primary objective, and maybe inflicting a little common sense? Or is it about huge pharmaceutical companies making another billion?

Now as they get older the excuses change. "Well his parents are alcoholics, you know?", or "It's not his fault, he was raised in a single parent home.", "I was sexually abused as a young child.". Don't get me wrong these are all-real, but can this young person, or any person, not take control of his or her own life? Now I may be out of line here but I believe everyone, and I do mean everyone, is responsible for his or her own actions! I don't care if your mommy didn't show you enough love, Or maybe your daddy didn't buy you that pony. You're sure that the pony would have changed your life. Well I'm here to tell ya BULLSHIT! Get over it and get on with your life!

In the words of a great ranter, Dennis Miller. That's just what I think, I could be wrong.
